If you’re excited about the quickly-approaching 2014 World Cup and you’re looking for some ‘lock alert’ betting selections for the opening weekend round of matches, then look no further!

Each of the following trio of matches are among my World Cup ‘Best Bets’ picks for the opening round and are virtual locks if you’re looking to get your futbol betting off on the right foot.
With that said – and the opening match between Brazil and Croatia set for Thursday, June 12 at 3:00 PM, let’s get this party started right.
World Cup 2014 Moneyline Odds
I like all three of the following favorites to easily cover their moneyline odds at the very least. If you feel comfortable backing any of the trio against what may be more value-packed odds, you’ll likely cash in as all three matches look like possible two-goal victories for the favorites.
Bet On Chile -220 over Australia +650
Chile is an overwhelming favorite in this match and for good reason…the Australian national team is winless in three friendly matches played this year. The Socceroos earned a draw against South Africa, while suffering defeats against Croatia and Ecuador. They are ranked an uninspiring 62nd in the FIFA world rankings and it’s hard to see them getting a point in any of their group matches.
Chile has a pair of outstanding goal scorers in Eduardo Vargas and Alexis Sanchez and I expect them to win this one going away. These two nations have played four times with the Aussies earning a draw in their first meeting back in the 1974 World Cup and Chile winning each match since then.
Bet On Uruguay -230 over Costa Rica +750
Costa Rica will look to reach the knockout round for the first time since 1990, but they’re going to be hard-pressed to do so in a competitive Group D that is pretty loaded. The Costa Rican squad will have their best opportunity to win a match in their opener, but just don’t have enough firepower to deal with Uruguay superstar Luis Suarez and cohort Diego Forlan. Uruguay pulled off an incredible feat by reaching the semifinals of the 2010 World Cup and they shouldn’t have much trouble winning this opening round match as Suarez finds the back of the net. Costa Rica has a very solid defense and they won’t go down without a fight, but they are going down as Suarez finds the back of the net – and all hell breaks loose in South America this weekend!
Bet On Argentina -250 over Bosnia-Herzegovina +750
With striker Lionel Messi leading the way, Argentina is one of the top contenders to win the 2014 World Cup championship – and an absolute lock to take down the overmatched Bosnia-Herzegovina squad along the way.
If you don’t know, Bosnia-Herzegovina does posses a solid offensive core of players, led by strikers, Vedad Ibisevic and Edin Dzeko, but this team’s defense couldn’t stop running water. I like Messi and company to take down their opening round counterparts 3-1 at the very least, so I say ride Argentina to a few bankroll-boosting bets in the process.
Here are our latest odds for who is going to win each group in the 2014 World Cup:
