UFC 217: Michael Bisping vs Georges St-Pierre
UFC 217 Preview
One of the greatest MMA fighters of all time returns to the Octagon on Saturday, Nov. 4. Georges St-Pierre steps into the Octagon to battle champion Michael Bisping in what many are calling the best matchup at UFC this year. The fight takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. Keep reading for a preview of the Bisping vs St-Pierre fight along with 3 other of the top matches at UFC 217.
Champion Michael Bisping, 31 and 7, fights Georges St-Pierre in the UFC 217 main event. St-Pierre’s record of 25 and 2 is dazzling. Most consider GSP to one of the best MMA fighters of all time. He’s beaten a who’s who of top UFC fighters: Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, James Shields, Matt Sera, and B.J. Penn have all lost to GSP.
St-Pierre hasn’t fought since beating Hendricks in a 5-Round unanimous decision at UFC 167. That was way back in 2013. Is St-Pierre ready to battle hardened champ Michael Bisping? That’s the main question going into this fight. If GSP can get Bisping to the ground, it will be his fight to win or lose. But after a 4-year layoff, can St-Pierre turn this bout into a ground battle?
The co-main event has champion Cody Garbrandt defending his title against #2 Jake Dillashaw. Dillashaw’s record of 15 and 3 is nice. Garbrandt is undefeated at 11 and 0. 82% of Grabrandt’s wins have come via KO or TKO. Garbrandt only lands 3.58 significant strikes per minute. The fact that he absorbs more, and still knocks out most of his opponents means he’s got great power. He’s got a strong chin as well. Dillashaw’s up against it on Nov. 4. Still, there’s a reason Dillashaw has only lost 3 times in the Octagon.
The top women’s’ fight on the UFC 217 card has champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk defending her title against #4 Rose Namajunas. Namajunas has a 7 and 3 record. She’s won 86% of her fights via submission. Jedrzejczyk’s record is 14 and 0. 64% of Jedrzejczyk’s wins have come via decision. Like Bisping versus GSP, whichever fighter’s style wins out should win this battle. Jedrzejczyk wants to keep the fight off the ground while Namajunas want to fight on the mat.
Also on the UFC 217 main card is a great matchup between #2 Stephen Thompson and #4 Jorge Masvidal. Thompson has a 13-1-1 record. Masvidal’s record is 32 and 12. Thompson figures to have an edge in the bout. He’s got a 2” leg reach advantage. Thompson has a 1-inch reach advantage. He’s also an inch taller. Masvidal had won 3 fights in a row before losing to Demian Maia at UFC 211. This should be a competitive affair.
The great Georges St-Pierre returns to the Octagon on Nov. 4, 2017 to fight Michael Bisping. Will St-Pierre’s return be a winning one? Or, will The Count end St-Pierre’s comeback before it gets started? Tune in to UFC 217 on Nov. 4 and check it out!
